Most of this chapter has been planned for some time, with the basic ideas being set in place from the start. But the next and final chapter -- which as you may have guessed will be denouement -- has been mostly written recently and with no prior planning whatsoever. Again, I find myself more pleased than ever with the results, especially the ending. I hope you are as well.

The Devil, You Know
Dexter / Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel
Dexter, Astor, ensemble Dexter/Buffy cast
Gen, M/F (Dexter/Lumen), F/F (Deb/Faith)

Current word count: 70,224 words

Post-Dexter 5x12, "The Big One"; post-Buffy 7x22, "Chosen"; post-Angel 5x11, "Damage". Dexter POV.

Miami under moonlight can be murder. But when the dead start to walk and demons come out to play, forensic analyst Dexter Morgan -- an off-hours serial killer of criminals who slip through the cracks -- finds himself caught up in the impossible. Astor has returned, with stunning supernatural powers and dreams of awful portents to come. And the latest new player in town is a dead ringer for her dead mother. As father and stepdaughter learn more of the deadly new secret world they've stumbled into -- a world of vampires, of Slayers, and forces of darkness -- Dexter can see he's coming to a crossroads. But is it too late to choose the right path?

"Crazy good work."

"Really great drama and interpersonal moments."

"Creepy, occasionally funny, and a mess of ugly emotions, exactly as a Buffy/Dexter crossover should be!"

In this installment: All the action. All the drama. For all the marbles.

In this installment: Two more scenes of non-Dexter POV. Lots of talk. Lots of action. And oh, so much drama.

(Chapter 19)
Much of the plot and dialogue in this chapter was only added in the last week, and even more only in the last few hours. And yet, more than ever, I couldn't be happier with the results. I can only hope at least some of you are equally pleased.

In this installment: Invading the villain's stronghold. And for the first time -- but not the last -- switching POV.

(Chapter 18)
As I close in on the end to this story, I've rewritten the summary in the form of a back cover bestseller blurb, going for (what I hope will be) more effective promotion over (what I know to be) an often misguided desire to avoid spoilers at all costs. I'm very happy with this latest update, which I've been planning and looking forward to since the beginning. And I hope you'll find the few remaining installments as enjoyable and satisfying as I think I do. It's all working out so far...

In this triple update:

- A lot of talk, a lot of drama, some action, and a cliffhanger
- Villainous banter, hostages taken, poor emergency planning, bigger cliffhanger
- A little action, a lot of talk, the heaviest drama yet, and an ending with only slightly less cliff

In this installment: Fire. Flight. Fight.

(Chapter 14)
Yes, it's still going. My first writing anything since early January, and the first update to this story since last December. I have so many other irons in the fire right now that it's harder than usual to say when you might see the next installment. Just know that in this time of panic and chaos, every bit of human contact is of immeasurable value. So post a comment, or drop me a line, because I'd love to hear from you.

"Compartmentalization is a joke."

(Chapter 13)

A British archaeological show is in Missouri to film the excavation of a massacre. It went weird before they even showed up. Two people seem to know what's going on, but ghosts and possessions have no place in a science show.

Will the Time Team make it out of Missouri alive? Tune in to find out.

Chapter Summary: The final part of the story on the dig in the Missouri wilderness. And it was going so well...

I hope you all enjoyed my short, geeky crossover.

It shouldn't need to be said, but please don't post copies of it on goodreads, or anywhere else. If you think someone would enjoy it, link to it on Archive of Our Own or Fanfiction.net. Copying for personal use is, of course, okay.

Chapter Summary: After lunch, the site is hot, and the work is slow. Tony’s impatient for something – anything – to happen, but he didn’t mean something like the Site Director having a nervous breakdown in the middle of their shoot.

And he certainly didn’t mean whatever was happening with their intern…

Chapter Summary: A middle of the night fire nearly derails what’s turning into a finds-rich dig. There’s Phil’s flint – keeping him happy. Carenza has a copper pot – dateable if she can find all of it. And Ian has found a wagon wheel.

And then the site director mumbles something about needing to prepare for when they find the last set of bones.

It’s enough to make someone believe it when the mysterious “expert” talks about ghosts and possessions.
